On June 1st, Refond Optoelectronics renewed its global patent authorization agreement with GE Lighting Solutions, LLC. (hereinafter referred to as "GE"). Refond has obtained GE's global KSF phosphor patent authorization for high color gamut applications in display backlighting, further meeting the needs of global customers for high color gamut automotive display backlighting and patent requirements.
Unlike the KSF patent obtained last October for lighting applications, this patent authorization focuses on applications in the field of LCD backlighting. In fact, since 2016, Refond has been the first LED packaging company in China to obtain GE's global KSF phosphor application patent authorization.
Leading Innovation in Display Backlighting
Mini LED Display & Development
In recent years, consumer demands for LCD displays in areas such as 3C consumer electronics, TVs, and automotive displays have been increasing in terms of brightness, clarity, and color saturation. The conventional backlighting color gamut can no longer meet market demands.
Refond has been active in the traditional large backlighting and Mini LED fields for many years. With this KSF phosphor patent authorization, Refond will further expand market applications in automotive displays, Mini LED, and large backlighting. By combining innovative technologies of KSF phosphor and β-Sialon phosphor, Refond aims to enhance color gamut coverage, improve color performance, increase display efficiency, and expand application scenarios, providing users with a richer and more realistic visual experience.
Innovative Technological Solutions Combining KSF and β-Sialon
Unlike traditional nitride phosphors, fluoride (KSF) phosphors have ultra-narrow half-width and high energy characteristics. When passing through an LCD panel, the spectrum retains high color purity, enhancing the clarity, brightness, and color accuracy of LED display images.

β-Sialon, as a green phosphor, offers unique luminescent properties and excellent stability in display applications, especially in phosphor-converted white LEDs (pc-WLEDs). It supports wide color gamut and long-term stable display performance.
Previously, Refond had obtained the global β-Sialon patent authorization from Japan's NIMS. By combining innovative technologies of KSF and β-Sialon, Refond can enhance color gamut coverage, improve color performance, increase display efficiency, and expand the color gamut range of display devices, meeting 85%-95% of color gamut needs and addressing current backlighting color gamut deficiencies. This is significant for promoting the application of backlighting technology.
